Pointe Fitting FAQ

Q: What should I wear to my pointe fitting?

A: Please come dressed in your studio's dress code leotard, ballet pink transition tights, and hair nicely pulled back (in a bun if possible). It is important for our fitters to see your body alignment when fitting pointe shoes.

Q: Should I bring anything?

A: If you are currently en pointe, please bring your most recent pair of pointe shoes and any toe padding you usually wear. Padding, toe caps, etc. will change the fit of the shoe, so it is important to bring what you use. If you have forgotten your pads or have never danced en pointe before, we have a selection of pads and foot products available for purchase at the boutique. We also sell pointe shoe ribbon and elastics, mesh pointe bags and other accessories.

Q: When should I arrive?

A: Pease arrive at Black Hills Dance Boutique about 10 minutes before your scheduled fitting time and plan to stay for the full hour.

Q: Is this event for first-time pointe dancers or can I come if I already dance en pointe?

A: This event is open to all Black Hills area dancers, new to pointe or currently en pointe. Amy Kenney is a professional pointe shoe fitter. If you're currently en pointe and not happy with your shoes, she would be happy to take a look to help problem solve and try on different shoes to find the perfect fit!

If you're a current pointe dancer and love your shoes, Black Hills Dance Boutique would be happy to order you additional pairs.

Q: Do you accept returns?

A: All pointe shoes are final sale. We will accept returns/exchanges on pointe accessories within 14 days of purchase, as long as there is no sign of use.

Q: What brands of pointe shoes will be at the event?

A: Amy brings a large inventory of pointe shoes, including a variety of brands, styles, and sizes. She goes through a rigorous process, carefully listening to your questions, concerns, and feedback to find you the perfect pair of pointe shoes.

Q: Is there anything else I need to know?

A: Here are a few additional helpful things to know:

  • Be sure your toenails are trimmed. Try not to cut them immediately before your fitting, as this can cause sensitivity and will affect your perception of fit.

  • Throughout the fitting process, it is important to communicate with your fitter, as your feedback is essential to achieving the best fit possible.

  • There will be a $15 fitting fee.
